PUPIL FREE DAY

A reminder that next Monday, October 31, is a pupil free day and that there are no classes for students on that day. Day For Daniel – Australia’s largest child safety event - Friday, 28th October

On Friday, 28th October, we are participating in ‘Day For Daniel’ https://danielmorcombefoundation.com.au/day-for-daniel

As we have done for the last few years, Viewbank Primary School will be participating in Day for Daniel. The Day for Daniel is a National Day of Action to raise awareness of child safety, protection and harm prevention. It is about educating children and adults about keeping kids safe through child safety and protection initiatives. It aims to help empower our children to Recognise, React and Report if they feel something is not right.

We are encouraging all students to add something RED to their uniform on Friday 28th October eg. red shirt, red ribbons, red skirt/trousers, red ha. Students may give a gold coin donation or if you would like to donate, please go to: https://danielmorcombe.com.au/donate and donate directly to the foundation.

During the day, students will engage in an age appropriate safety lessons with their class.

WALKATHON 2022

One of our major Fundraisers for 2022 is our Walkathon. On Tuesday 25th October, all Viewbank Primary School students will participate in this annual event, completing laps through and around the school's perimeter.

Click here to volunteer on the day. All volunteers must have a current Working With Children Check, or approved exemption (e.g. VIT card, police badge etc).

INTENTIONS TO LEAVE

Term 4 is always dominated with planning for the following year – grade and staff selection, budgets, enrolments and more. We have asked this before, (and families have been very good in letting us know), but if any other families are intending to leave our school community in 2023 because of relocation or other reason, could you please advise us as soon as possible. A phone call to the office, or an email to the school or my email account asap would be most appreciated.

WORLD TEACHERS DAY

Please join with us to celebrate and thank the teaching profession on World Teachers’ Day on Friday 29 October 2021. It is an opportunity to take a moment to recognise the passion of teachers and how teaching has extended beyond the classroom in maintaining connections through remote learning.

Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities.

All our teachers at Viewbank are highly valued and deserve a HUGE thank you. We certainly appreciate their professionalism, dedication and the energy and commitment they bring to their role.

We are proud to celebrate being part of teaching and its bright future.

Please take the time to say ‘thank you’ to your child’s teacher.

Return to school plan – Metropolitan Melbourne/Restricted Areas

As you will be aware, there is a staggered return to on site learning commencing from the start of week 3 – that is October 18, as follows:-

Capture.PNG

Each week will be a bit of a logistical exercise managing staffing, sifting through requests for onsite supervision, ensuring those grade levels that are permitted on site know the precise days, monitoring gates and so on, but with everyone’s cooperation we have proven we can manage this and we will continue to do so!!

For NEXT week, the week commencing October 11, learning remains remote for all students EXCEPT those who have applied for onsite supervision through the normal application processes. The application form for families who have been approved to attend in the past will be emailed directly today – if anyone else believes their circumstances have changed and they may need their children supervised onsite, please contact the General Office on 9459-1512, or email me.

We want our parents, caregivers and guardians to tell us what they think!

Viewbank Primary school is conducting a survey to find out what parents, caregivers and guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of parents, caregivers and guardians (previously known as the Parent Opinion Survey). It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year, the Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 19th July to Sunday 22nd August.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. Please look out for the link that will be published on Compass and via email. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

Please speak to the Acting Assistant Principal Karen Butler if you would like more information.

STORY LAND - Foundation Transition 2022

Unfortunately, our first Transition event for students starting Foundation in 2022 has been cancelled. Instead of our traditional ‘face to face’ Story Land session we have moved this process online as we couldn’t wait for Transition Events to begin. Story Land is our first of three Transition ‘Lands'. It is always a favourite with the students. Mrs. Kelsey Mentiplay (Team leader) and Mrs. Amanda Elliott (Transition Co-ordinator) are reading one of our favourite stories 'Oi Frog' by Kes Gray + Jim Field.
